How the power of optimism will help you survive and thrive in any market disruption.

When the new year’s ball dropped for 2020, I couldn’t have imagined what the following months would bring. I doubt any of us could have imagined how quickly a global 🌎 pandemic would change everything. As a transformational teacher and online business strategist, I watched as fear wrapped its tentacles around humanity and laid waste to many dreams. And as a femme entrepreneur, I wasn’t immune either from the overwhelming emotions that come when you’re catapulted into a new reality that appears overnight. 😣

After a 48 hour emotional freefall, I made a quick decision to start talking about what action my students and I could take to not only live and continue working at this time but to thrive. Today I’m focusing on the one thing that’s carried me and many of my clients through this epic time of transformation: optimism. 🙏 This is a key part of who I am and how I do business, and it kicked in like a lightning bolt to my soul when COVID-19 swept across the world.

I want to be clear… optimism goes WAY BEYOND having a positive mindset: it’s the key 🗝️ to surviving any market disruption. Although COVID-19 is probably the biggest disruptor we’ve seen for at least a generation, there have been others… the GFC, Wall Street crashes, technology advances that have changed the way we do things, and so many more. Entrepreneurs have been brought to their knees time and time again, but a fundamental strategy for success has always been about taking the optimistic path. 🗺️

When COVID-19 turned into a global public health emergency, I immediately started to feel people’s fear. And it impacted my sales: for the first time since I launched my business, I didn’t make a sale for two weeks. 😲 I won’t lie… I was beyond concerned. But instead of using the energy of the disruption to unravel and constrain my creativity, I paused and thought about how I wanted to be during this time. I was clear that I needed to transform the chaos into courage and certainty for myself, my clients, and my team.

I knew I had to be a voice for my community. I took my optimism and my passion for service and got busy sharing my work for FREE like never before. 🙌

I made the choice to deliver content that identified the exact steps my audience had to follow to ensure wild and divine success—even in this uncertain time..

I committed to posts on the virus 🦠 and what we could do to succeed, rather than focusing on what we needed to be fearful about. By not aligning to the ‘freak out’ state of many, I could stand in my power and be the LEADER I needed to be to provide a pathway into opportunity for us all.

I also took the following key 🗝️ steps:

I got clear on how I would navigate the market disruption. Let me say this unequivocally: develop a CRYSTAL 🔮 CLEAR STRATEGY on what you’re going to do right now and over the next few months. You need to be able to bank on yourself, so now is the time to back yourself. Yes, the global pandemic is unprecedented in our lifetime, but it also provides an opportunity to look at things differently and implement strategies based on a new perspective. 👀 Yes, the world has been turned upside down with planes grounded, hospitals inundated, and businesses shutting doors, but this also means that the rulebook has been thrown out. Now is the time to make your OWN RULES.

I focused on my existing community and based my strategies around how I could SERVE MORE DEEPLY. ✨ I looked at all my existing work and restructured it, so it was even more ACCESSIBLE and VALUABLE for my clients. Be clever and strategic because someone is going to turn this time (and all the opportunities that will rise from it) into millions… 💸 why shouldn’t that be you?

I took a deep dive into my financial situation. Where was I burning cash? 💰 Where could I cut back? And where did I want to invest my capital? Instead of doubling down on my ad spend like the vast majority of male marketers kept telling me to do, I decided to slash it and conserve capital, and I focused on developing a new marketing strategy that would see me grow my online business by 60 percent in just 30 days. 📈 I didn’t look to anyone else about what they were doing. Instead, I focused on my situation, and sometimes zigged where everyone else zagged. I had to trust myself, and I won.

I created a safe place for my clients to land, away from the uncertainty and fear. This meant NO fear-based sales relating to COVID-19. I’ve always stood against this approach to selling because optimists don’t need to manipulate to attract clients. We genuinely see a better future and limitless opportunities for all. As I say to my clients often, as one woman rises, we all rise. 💃 And an optimist supports the rising of all because there is ENOUGH for all.

The touchstone of an optimist is knowing that energy ⚡ will flow to wherever you put your attention, so don’t focus on what you don’t want! This is a premise I follow in every area of my life. Optimism allows for you to be solution-focused not problem focused. 😉

And here’s where I diverge from many other coaches… Being an optimist in my book isn’t about having a positive mindset alone. It’s about taking action to build the future you want, rather than complaining about what isn’t working. The moment you identify what isn’t getting results, create a roadmap 🗺️ to restore your ROI fast.

Positivity is for rookies, and negativity is for those that tend to fail. Optimists see and create their future with a clear vision and decisive action. 😎

As an entrepreneur, you’re going to face challenges. That comes with the territory of being in business. What’s important is to think quick, stay grounded, and focus on change that will support the growth of your company. This requires resilience, strategy, support, and a backbone.

I get that you may still be feeling scared, confused, and exhausted. This year has been a roller-coaster 🎢 ride of uncertainty. But here’s the thing: optimism is your way out because focusing on solving problems and creating opportunities will mean you’re not stuck with what’s not working, burning cash, and struggling to survive.

So how do you light the fiyah 🔥 within your inner optimist?

You ask yourself: what do I need to do to improve this situation? 🤔

Then outline the steps you need to take—and take them. It’s all about implementation.

When the memory of 2020 has faded and you look back, do you want this time to be filled with fear, manipulation, and distortion, or support, love, and security?
